POTC Ficlet ~To Sail Again~

~To Sail Again~
by: gypsyluv
Challenge #24 at pirates_500
Word Count: 1070
Characters/Pairings:  Captain William Turner, Jack Sparrow, Bill Turner too but if you blink you'll miss him. Hints of Jack/Will.
Warnings/Ratings:  PG13 (are you all shocked?) Only the slightest hint of slash if your really looking for it.
Disclaimer:  Non of the pretty pirates are mine. This never happened! And I'm broke as hell so obviously not making money off this!
Authors Notes:
I took some liberty with the idea of Will being "death" sorta.  Made it more like he's not just the Ferryman but maybe a reaper of sorts.  He can take life or spread disease with just a touch, if he so wants to. This way too he can help those near death to the other side without having to ...  run them through and all.  More humane this way, and it fit with my story idea.

Challenge #24 Lyrics
They don't know how I used to sail the deep and tranquil seas
But he washed me ashore
And he took my pearl
And left an empty
Shell of me
from ~Sullen Girl~
Album ~Tidal~
By Fiona Apple

Captain William Turner walked into the Faithful Bride. Things had changed much more then they had the last day he had spent on land. He sat down at the bar, ordered a drink then turned in his seat and faced the crowd. He looked them over, not a familiar face in sight.  He supposes most that he knew had given up piracy or died by now. The faces that replaced the ones he had known somehow seemed to lack the character of their predecessors.

He wasn't there just to look around though; he was looking for one face in particular. He usually heard things from the many he ferried of his old friend Jack Sparrow, but he hadn't in quite sometime. If he had died at sea Will would have known it and he just couldn't see Jack not dieing at sea.  No he couldn't even think that Jack had died yet, it would make the world seem an even darker place to think that.  He surveyed the crowd again and there in the very back corner at a table was a man that looked familiar.

Will ordered a bottle of rum and took it and his drink and headed for the table.  Once there he sat the bottle down firmly.

"Care for a drink," He paused to see if the man would look up. "Jack?"

Slowly the dark head raised and Will almost gasp at the sight it brought.

"Jack Sparrow, seems that fountain of youth has eluded you still." Will said looking at the man that was just a ghost of the man he once knew.

Jack took up the bottle and tried to uncork it but couldn't. He sat it back down and looked at the table again.

"Nothing left here boy but an empty shell." Jack said his voice horse and weak.

"What happened to you Jack? I figured if anyone could find it you could." Will asked pulling out a chair and sitting in it.  He took the bottle of rum, uncorked it and offered it to Jack.

"Barbossa happened; he took my pearl, left me washed up on some shore.  I spent 8 years on that Island before I was found." Jack lifted the rum to his lips, took a sip and coughed most of it back out.

"I'm sorry Jack; I hate to see you like this.  You know how I've always felt for you don't you Jack?" Will laid his hand over Jacks much more wrinkled and smaller hand.

Jack tried to pull his hand away but Will held it and brought his other hand there to hold on to it to.

"You'll sail again Jack. You'll sail the deep and tranquil seas again soon, I promise. Just go back to sea, any ship you can get passage on and I promise you will be free again Jack." Will brought the shaking fragile feeling hand to his lips and placed a soft kiss to the back of it.

Jack followed the action with his eyes and for a instant Will saw the old flash and sparkle there in Jacks dark eyes.  He smiled at him and laid his hand back on the table.

"This is my one day Jack. I have to go back in the morning. I wanted to find you and spend it with you." Will smiled at the older man.

"Should have found you a girl mate, I'm afraid this pirates not got no powder left in his gun." Jack smiled but the joke was more then a joke and the truth of it clouded his eyes.

"Why Jack Sparrow are you flirting with me?" Will said smiling trying to lighten the mood.

They sat there until morning drinking and sharing stories.  Will learned of how Jack had found the fountain of youth, but only to loose it again thanks to a hurricane that seemed to have been brought up by Calypso herself. It was after that when Barbossa took his Pearl yet again and left him for dead.  He wasn't far from it now.  Will knew the old pirates time was up, and if all he could give him was death then he wanted Jack to have it the way he was meant to have it.  He got up to leave and pulled Jack to his feet embracing him in a tight hug.  He felt small and broken in Wills arms and it brought tears to his eyes.

"Remember Jack, find a ship today, stow away if you have to but get back to sea.  We'll see each other again soon I promise Jack." Will kissed his cheek and was gone just as the first rays of sunlight shone through the cracks in the walls of the old run down tavern.

Jack sat back down and drank down the last of the bottle of rum.  He began to cough and this time it was full of blood.  Jack looked at his hand as he pulled it from his mouth, saw the blood and his eyes went wide with shock and he looked to the door that Will had just disappeared through.   "What have you done to me?" He asked in the direction of the mans path.

Weeks later The Flying Dutchman came upon a long boat adrift all alone in the middle of no where.  Inside it laid a man curled up, shaking and half dead.  The crew worked together and had the man on the deck in no time and awaited Wills orders.  Will walked over to him, reached down and gently tilted the mans face up.

"Welcome to the Flying Dutchman Jack.  You have two choices." Will smiled at him and turned to his crew.

"Take him to my cabin, and be gently, he's precious to me." Will said as his father placed a hand on his shoulder.  Will turned and looked at him.

"Death or a life time of service, I think that will be an easy one for Jack." Bill said.  "And I bet you won't even have to tell him he'll be young and strong again." Bill laughed this time and Will joined in.

"I promised he'd sail again, and I meant it, even if I did have to take what life he had left to do it." Will looked into his fathers knowing eyes and smiled, and then he went to give Jack his "freedom" back and to give himself his "heart" back.

That was rather nice. I like the idea of Will as a reaper, although Jack may be the only one he'd go looking on land for. ^_^

OH thank you!
I do agree with you too... Jack would be the only one! *giggles*

Hugs you!

I like the story and the idea of the story itself. There are a few grammatical errors here and there, but overall, a good way to bring them together and deal with the issue of him NOT drinking from the Fountain.

Cruel to be kind? I'm a little pissed at Will, but I know it all worked out for the best.

(and I get to use my death!fic icon)
Gypsyluv: OTPgypsyluv on March 28th, 2008 01:17 am (UTC)
I like the icon! Sometimes I feel like that myself!
Thanks also, I'm glad you liked even if Will was a tad, cruel.
Hugs you tight!

This is a fantastic idea, through and through! Inspiring, even. I've never really given it much thought this way 'round, Jack not finding the FoY, but now I do, so thank you! :)

And, in my humble opinion, if Jack is a wreck, then the best thing for him is to die instead of writhing away and being tormented with 'what could have beens.' Much more gentle that way, especially if it does include Will as death in the equation ;)
Gypsyluv: OTPgypsyluv on March 28th, 2008 01:20 am (UTC)
Wow.. Thank you so much! Your comment is inspiring to me! hehe!
I hate to think of Jack, old, broken down, and beaten basically, but at least Will was there to "save" him in his own way.
Glad you liked it!
And Thanks again for the fantastic comment!
Hugs you tight!

*shakes head at self* I nearly started sniffling because Jack was going to die. I have no idea why I thought you would let him die.

Lovely story and great idea! *hugs*
Gypsyluv: OTPgypsyluv on March 28th, 2008 01:24 am (UTC)
hehe... Yes, well we know he would always choose Will over death, even if it ment a lifetime of service on the Dutchman. Given the Dutchmans current Captain that could be a very "pleasurable" service to endure! *giggles*
Thanks so very much love!
I'm so glad you liked it!
Hugs you tightly!
Much Love!

I think we all begrudge the day where we live but can't take care of ourselves and depend on others to "wait" on us. I'm sure this would be a happy ending and a new beginning for Jack. Especially after what he did for Will so he could at least exist.

Lovely fic Carla!

hugs

Thanks so much Jo!
And yes, that would be worse then death for Jack, not to be albe to "live" anymore.
Just being able to be on the ocean again is freedom from that fate for him.
Anyways, glad you got my meaning.
Love ya
Hugs you tight!

I really enjoyed this! A nice darker twist on the pairing, and the lengths Will goes to here are very interesting to consider. I hate to think of Jack as old an frail, but it's not so bad if he is restored to his former self :) Great writing!

Thank you so much love!
I'm very glad you like it, and yeah... darker then what I usualy write, but it seems my writing has been darker and full of angst lately. Must be my moodswings! hehe!
Thank you again!
Hugs you so tight!
